If you like, go ahead and tell your fellow WST Ning members about yourself here
I grew up in Marabella, Trinidad and left in 1968 for St Croix USVI. As a youth in Trini, I was a member of the Scarlet Symphony steel orchestra which was an offshoot of the famed Marabella steelband, Southern Marines.
We also started a combo called Silhouettes combo, which had some success in Trini back in the day
I also beat pan with WASA Silvertones, a popular Sando band of the late sixties and early seventies. . I was also a member of a band we formed in St croix until I left to join the US army in'71.
Looking back, some of the most enjoyable times of my life were the times spent in steelbands.
I now live in Londonderry NH, USA but I'm a true culture lover, and I've been posting my collection of pan and calypso videos and records on YouTube and on WST as time permits.

Looking for some missing lyrics on Maestros' song Champion of De Road.....how's your knowledge??
Greetings Glenroy. I was looking for a video of an interview with Oscar Pile which you posted in 2010 and another on steelband clashes, but they're no longer available on WST. Do you have these? Are you willing to share? Also, for a while I have been trying to source Stalin's "Whey I Band." Do you have that?
I looked at some of your impressive(477) video postings and postings on pan and calypso. One word: Awesome!
About the origins of pan, I agree that the North -South dichotomy is overplayed. I am from Egypt-Caledonia, born and bred Harmonites, but I spent some time in Central T'dad--Chaguanas, Freeport, Orange Field Rd., Carapichima and in Marabella (I am related in some way to Burton Forde, who managed Johnny DePieza) in the early '60s and I remember steelbands in those areas. In 1996 I interviewed Humphrey Reefer in Point. He took me to the beach site where he claimed pan was born!! Then there is the story of pan in Tacarigua and the Orisha influence. My mother was a Shango-Baptist. I remember her running around with Francis Bedeau (sp) who was and Orisha and a great drummer!!
Will like to communicate with you outside of WST. I consider myself a panactivist and I am on the case.
Best,
Ajamu

My dear friend Glenroy, I am so glad that you are back, I have made several inquiries about your recovery progress but did not receive any info. Yes I too have been a fan of your favorite dance band Clarence Curvan, and the other great bands you know them all back in the era. As you know that the Dutchy Brothers had great pleasure in joining them all on stage in non-stop dances. I need to know how to communicate with you on a personal note of the air ways. Thanks for keeping me updated with all the great talent on WSLT.

Glenroy; my hat's off to U again brother, that All Stars Rain-o-rama, music arrangement was well done, the piece was well balanced, a clear front line where U hear and can distinguish the melody all the way through, as the middle and background accompanied the front line was also well done, as all required musical arrangement, apart from Pan Am North Stars in the 1960s, All Stars Rain-o-rama, and Starlift Do Do Yeah Meah, is the best balance panorama I've heard from 1973 thru 2015, apart from Pan Am North Stars that is, of course I'm prejudice lol...
Glenroy U ole fox, I taught Anthony Williams and I was the only one's who still has those recording's, my hat off to U man, Williams and I played on that recording, along with 4 other surviving North Stars members, a collectors item cherish it forever man...
Yes Glenroy; Williams derive the 4ths & 5ths in 1949/50 while in Young Sunvallians, before they started Northern Stars, when Sunvallians broke up, the mobile unit derived from an idea Williams had when he became leader of St James North Stars in 1952, with double seconds, double and triple cellos, high bass, bass, and low bass, for a full conventional orchestration, the stage side was not doin to well though, the men prefered gambling at night, instead of rehearsing, but it was only at carnival time things was a different, he tried in 1954/55, but succeeded in 1956 with "pram wheels", then bicycle wheels, and in 1959 wheel barrow wheels, the racks started in 1957, and was completed in 1959 with 4,5, and 6 set basses, yeap Glenroy the mobile unit was Williams baby...
Pan has been in "Orbit" since the mid 1990s, as a result of abuse by "Pan Trinbago" to "Panmen/ Women, the pan tuners are not tuning the pans correctly any more, they're using what they called "Harmonics, when the word is Harmonic Tuning," which is for string instruments, WHERE "PAN" IS NOT A STRING INSTRUMENT, that alone put them way out in ORBIT, in some astronomical unit past Uranus and Saturn, they let some "White" Physicist named Ulf Korfman derailed/distract them from there plight to greatness, and the arrangers are not listening, thinking or balancing there music, instead the are recycling each others music, and not goin anywhere, there kyes the "Trajectory"...
Glenroy; I almost forgot, I met Nerlin Taitt in 1963 while in Jamaica on tour with Pan Am North Stars, "Tony" Williams introduce me to him, where they had played at the "Roxy Theater" when Taitt won the ping pong soloist in 1956 with a tune called "Off Shore", what clear "Dexterity/both hands" as a "Guitarist and Panist he had, said Williams...
Keep e'm coming Glenroy; I'm just lookin and listening, UR doin great...
How True Glenroy; an International Pan Festival would have been more appropriate, where this IPC was a CAMOUFLAGE by the REGIME to side track "pan men/women," from the real issue at hand, their existance in office, I saw "DIAZ" on T V this morning talking about " the Standardization and Development of Pan", he is of the opinion or think pan men are stupid, and no one out there is watching him, but he will soon find out that, "pan has already been standardize and developed", and no foreign band is going to beat a "Trini Band" in this IPC, unless Pan Trinbago want's it so, and if that happens, it will undermine the original "Panorama", and "All Hell will Break loose"...
