I was the high school band director at the Washington School District for thirty-five years. During my tenure at Washington High School, my bands traveled extensively through out the United States. They were adjudicated by many of the internationally renowned clinicians in the field of music. My marching band performed twice in the Orange Bowl and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as well as performing halftime for the Pittsburgh Steelers football games. My steel band was recognized internationally as being one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the United States. They performed at the MENC in 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1997. They performed at the Pennsylvania Music Educator Association (PMEA) conference in 1988, 1990, 1997 and 2004. They were the first steel band to be chosen to perform at the Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic in 1992 and gave a clinic concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 1993. They represented the State of Pennsylvania at the 50th Anniversary Celebration of V E Day in Europe. The band was on tour for ten days from May 5th through May14th, 1995 playing concerts in Paris, London, Normandy and Dover. The Steel Band has played an unprecedented eight times at the Chautauqua Institution. In 1998 co-founder James Leyden and I, formed Hillbridge Music. This publishing Company was created to provide the ever-increasing need for quality steel band musical arrangements. It is now considered one of the top steel band publishers in the country.
