      cont'd:

      4) I stated that at times we (meaning everyone, worldwide), practice wrong doings that become norms and when the time comes to correct, it becomes a problem...and that is a problem; and

      5) I stated but we, Renegades, does not play on the road unauthorized alluding to not quite understanding what was really happening at your end.

I deliberately use the word unauthorize because you have been seeking confirmation on what is the lawful approach questioning the police intervention as you describe it as "harrassment".

Your article never mentioned your organization receiving authority to utilize the "private property" you drew reference to in your response to me, then I am now suggestion, should that be the case, don't fight up with the law but instead quote the document caption and date. That will end all your concerns, my concerns, allay others' fears, bring comfort to the membership and start the journey of good police-band relations.

You should be happy and grateful that many want to support your cause, but you give the impression that you are upset thus hindering your conceptualization of my content.

I observe a respondee describing you as "disrespectful" and that shouldn't be. I am coming to south to meet you and your group as a kind and loving pan gesture!

2012 will be better. I will help you practice/play where ever without disruptions and you will be writing to a better tune.

      Love and Regards

Michael, throughout assumed adversities, pan ensures peace and love thus, Happy Carnival Sunday to you and your two families -- pan and non-pan.

      But um, um, um!

You still missed the point and that's unfortunate.

It evidently remains sketchy what you are reading but it is evidently clear how you interpret what I write or what is written.

To quote from your piece from March 2nd: "...Last year the Police stopped the band from playing music three hundred yards from our Pan Theatre, on our way home." (last year speaks to 2010)

Now this year, 2011: "...Again last night, March 1st, two nights before the National Small Bands Finals, the Police in the person of officer Cupi and another who did not give his name, is 'intimidating' our membership by insisting that we are breaking the law, and that we must have a permit giving us permission to assemble to beat drums".

At no time did I accuseyour group was playing/practicing on the pavement or road, I extrapolated from exactly what you wrote as quoted and questioned if that were the case that tenor players of Renegades practice on the pavement at times but are not "harrassed" by the Police despite having police and soldiers stationed right next to us.

That means for your circumstance: either your want or need to accomplish "Freedom of Expression" is either being done without proper authorization motivating the police to simply do their rightful job.

Should you read ALL my responses carefully or get someone else to do so, you/they will find the following:

      1) I never accused you of any wrong doing. In an attempt to lend support yet being mindful of right and wrong, I sought clarification of your diction, questioned the situation and drew examples;

      2) I never stated that Renegades offered advice on anything;

      3) I recommended to verify respective laws (or guidelines) to better enable your want/need. (cont'd)

That is a TASK force (combination of police and soldiers) right next to my panyard and they do not intervene when pannists are playing/practicing on the pavement.
    • Sandra L Blood March 4, 2011 at 2:44pm

      Michael, Michael, Michael,

      Um, um, um!!!

I respect age, people in general because I affiliate with pan.

I don't have to write to think I am "important", I am important because I am a pannist.

I am not sure what you got wrong or didn't get at all with my response.

I actually trying to defend your cause by alluding to just when you are receiving police intervention for the use of your orchestra/essemble on the road/pavement...out of your panyard, I am saying that there is a TASK force (combination of police and soldiers) right next to it and they do not intervene when they are on the pavement.

Can you shed light on where the communication went wrong or what you evidently didn't understand?

Then as a sister pannist, I chose to offer advice which sane, caring people do naturally, to help you or anyone else avoid the disruption, in future, especially during the season, as it is extremely important to practice for competition without disturbances.

It will be nice of you to tell me why you are that offended.

Let's continue to be nice to each other as pan is a medium to help us contain our emotions and keep us level-headed.

      Regards.

    • Sandra L Blood March 4, 2011 at 9:51am

OMG, I forgot the playing-pan-in-the-road without authorization. Well, we Renegades, never played pan in the road without authorization. So try and comply. When we respect, others respect us and you will create great synergy and harmony between your band and the authorities.

Simply seek advice and authorization prior to, in future, and things will work out.

Remember, pan has evolved as a tool/mechanism to help up young people so we have to set the right example at all times!

      ........................

    • Sandra L Blood March 4, 2011 at 9:42am

      Dear Michael,

I play for Renegades, Port of Spain, with a TASK force next to our panyard, and it's really strange to learn that you'll are being "harrassed" to practice on the pavement because many of our tenor players practice on the pavement (with ease).

As a person who advocated compying with GOOD laws, and ensures that GOOD laws are abided by, my concern, however is, how many of you are actually on the pavement and is the entire with of the pavement occupied or are you'll encroaching upon the road?

A word of caution though: Once the officers signal a warning or issue a warning or an advice, it mUst be carried out pending proper enquiry or authorization.

There are times when wrong doings become norms, and when the time comes to put them right, they pose great problems...and that is a problem.

So my advice to you is: Do the big thing, and shift a little to allow peace of mind (to your musicians/performers) reign. In future, try and acquire proper authorization from the correct people before adopting any particular practice to ensure you are safe.

In that way, everyone will be comfortable as music must be played with a comfortable spirit and peace of mind.

      Regards,

      SLBlood
