Dreaming of the Past We all I guess every now and then take time to remember our past. No.. No I’m not going to tell you all about my past Regrets? Mistakes? Stupidities? Loves? for only that would be a bit too private to be aired. But I do have one confession… I really wished I kept more involved with my local community in West London and in particular the Steel Band seen. I must admit I always preferred to name them as Steel Orchestras considering most in the UK and all in Trinidad are over 100 persons strong. 100 persons mixed with youth (girls and boys), adults (women and men), enthusiasm, rhythm, speed, coordination and timing. And yes I played in one or two of these Orchestras from 14 years old until I went off to university. After that I just lost touch, chasing as they say “the dream”. Whilst Calypso is the overriding musical influence, you can’t avoid picking up the Jazz, Blues, Classical, big band overtones all blended by incredible composing and the zeal by which the members of the Orchestra plays. I recently started to communicate with lost long friends and influences from my past. It is fun!!!
