Asian Himalaya Music School Background: Nepal is a small country with cultural diversity. Once, it was a saying that in Nepal, there are as many temples as there are houses and as many gods and goddesses as there are people. The people follow different costumes and practices regarding their ethnic group. Though Nepal is rich in different types of people and their culture, it has not yet been able to make known fully of its heritages to the rest of the world. Nepalese people are introverted in the sense that they play and perform different cultural practices; they are reluctant to bring such practices out of their communities. The geography of Nepal is unique. Though it is small in size, it extends to the altitude of 8848 (Mt. Everest) in the North and to the sea level to its South. There are mountains, valleys and plains where different ethnic groups inhibit. They have their own culture and costumes. They have different festivals and cultural performances for their festivals. Introduction: Asian Himalaya Music School was established in 1994 by a team of renowned Nepali cultural artists, with a view to explore, study and preserve Nepali traditional music and dances. The school is duly registered and recognized by the Government of Nepal (Regd. No. 25027). The music school conducts traditional and modern music, dance and vocal classes everyday except Saturday and government holidays. Performing art in different occasion is another concern of this organization. Nepal, though a small country has numbers of tribes, all rich in their culture. We make different cultural performances representing different tribes with their traditional dress, musical instruments, and dance practices. Besides this, we train the new generation play modern musical instruments and art performances. The traditional instruments we teach to play are of wide range representing different ethnic groups of Nepal. Madal, Saarangi, Damphu, Binayo etc are of some instances. Location: The school is situated at the centre of Kathmandu city locally named as JAMAL, quite opposite of Nepal National theatre hall. It is about five kilometers from the Kathmandu International airport. Objectives: The core objectives of the organization are to preserve, practice, explore and develop Nepali folk music and other cultural performances such as different traditional dances. The school is established with a view to transform the new generation the highest values of Nepalese societies through songs and dances. Activities: The school conducts traditional and modern music, dance and vocal classes everyday except Saturday and government holidays. Methods: The students are taught theoretically and through practice. The instructor first gives the instructions then the students practice with the help of the instructor. Sometimes, the students are taken to public shows when they become competent. Facilities: The school provides music/ dance lessons to its students six days a week. Every student is provided a space, instrument and a group instructor for better performances. In special cases, if the student needs an individual instructor, the school provides the instructor with extra fees. Transport: The school provides transport facilities for students when they have to go for their classes which sometimes are a few kilometers from the hotel. Food and Accommodation: Usually the students come to the school from their homes. The school manages food and accommodation for the students from abroad. The school hires some hotel rooms for such purposes. Yours truly, My Mailing Address Mr. Shanta Bahadur Gotame Asian Himalaya Music School P. O.
