Earl; I've ask'ed the same question, Y do all steel bands sound alike, on one could give the answer, so hear goes, several things, (1) most of the arrangers, excluding Holman, Sharpe, Goddard, Greenidge, and Narell who sound alot like Invaders, are forging each other's recycled music, playing in the same keys, or only the lower area of the pan in F C G or D, (2) the tuners are using what is called "Harmonic" tuning which is for string instruments, "PAN" is NOT a string instrument, harmonic tuning is NOT accurate, they say when U strike a note U must hear a chord, when U hit C U must hear the C chord C E G, so when U R playing in C minor U will be still hearing the E instead of the Eb, this causes the tones/notes to clash, which causes a dischord or a humming out of key sound/noise, which allows the instruments to go out of tune easily, (3) the players DANCING and BEATING instead of PLAYING, I could go on and on but I'll stop for now...
EDITED VERSION;This query/trivia is somewhat prejudicial, due to the fact that when "Panorama" first started there were only LARGE BAND'S in the 60s' no single, small, medium, or large band category's, where Pan Am North Stars won in 1963 /1964 and Guiness Cavaliers1965 /1967 both band's won two "Panorama's," each in different year's, no band could ever win two panorama's the same years where "Panorama's" is an annual event, the history of pan/steel band is already DISTORTED, so member Richards, what is your "Gist" or real point???...

hi earl, what about a " remember when? " in panorama! I can think of one, remember when desperadoes was eliminated in the preliminary stages of the event. Rudolph Charles then took what turned out to be a controversial matter to the courts and won. Desperadoes was then reinstated in the panorama, went to the savannah on final night and blew us away with the now famous Bradley's (deceased) arrangement of Nelson's " I going and party tonight." I'm open for correction.
