I am Anthony Eric Mc Allister, Panist and composer and current Arranger for both the Merry Tones Steel Orchestra and Icewater Pansemble.
My love affair with Pan began in 1973 while I was 4th Form student at Queen’s Royal College in Trinidad, West Indies. In 1974 I joined the Merry Tones Steel Orchestra, a band domiciled in Diego Martin, Trinidad, West Indies. To date I am still a member.
In 1976, due to my keen interest in arranging I was selected by Merry Tones to participate in a one-week workshop for young arrangers. This was held under the auspices of our Ministry of Community Development. This initial exposure to the rudiments and theory of music encouraged me to delve deeper into the subject over the years.
Over my 40 years as a Panist I have been exposed to all genre of music and have received music tuition and guidance through many workshops and other forms of interaction from the likes of Merle Albino De Couteau, Clive Bradley, Stanley Ruiz, Trinidadian Jazz luminary and author, Sean Thomas a graduate of the Thelonious Monk Academy, to name a few. In December 2012 I completed and in February 2013 received a Specialist in Music Theory Certificate from the Berklee School of Music Online Programme.

merrytonetothebone; que pasa amigo yo hiding or what si? ok, I need U to check out the Dorian mode which moves in Saturn, and the Phrygian mode that moves in Jupiter, let me know what U think so I can explain what and Y I asked U to check it out...
merrytonetothebone; my Gist is a question, if U R teaching theory via intervals in the steel pan sphere, would'nt it be in the best interest of the student 's if U use the tenor pan instead of the key board ??? Williams and I always agree that to learn the pan/instrument first, will give U or the student/pupil a head start on sight reading afterwards...
I know what U R saying merrytone, because I sound a lot like Anthony Williams with the arpeggio's etc, but I was luckey enough to speak to "Thelenous Monk and Miles Davis"in the late 1960s in Harlem, about this issue when MONK he told that HE, had that same problem as he had learn from Mary Lou Williams a Jazz Pianoist, Miles said he studied under "Stuff Smith" a classic violinist who played "Blue's" but he played with a lot of different guy's, but he liked a musician from the old "Harry James Band ", a horn player name "Pauly Cohan", but I implemented myself said"Miles," so I studied theory, so did Robert Greenidge, scales over chords. modes, slur's, pic up's, sextuplexin exercise's, etc, U name I did it, but I mostly studied MODES/SCALES ...

merrytonetothebone; I take my music and especially "PAN" very seriously, I got beat up, and arrested by police for "PAN", I did'nt choose "PAN", pan choose me, and I learnt the/my craft well, as I had the BEST TUTOR in Anthony Williams, with what he taught me, I can duplicate anything he did, but I choose not too, copying is lame, as I cannot be him, but he taught me the "PHILOSOPHY, IDIOM etc", what to do, what not to do, when to do it, and IT'S THE COMPASS OF MY BEING, in a 24 hour period, I live the 4ths & 5ths, chromatically, whole tone, augmented, diminished, suspended etc, most people today, NOT U, take "PAN" as some kind of CIRCUS FRENZY or even a "BIG JOKE", that's why I am, that I am, about this wonderfull instrument of our's, and one more thing, "Pythagoras" before he was murdered, burn't to death, did not creat the 4ths & 5ths interval, nor did Isis, Osiris, Plato, Damon, Socrates, Copernicas, Tycho Brahe, or Johann Kepler, Anthony Williams did, by way of / using "Pythagoras" theorem / a proven mathematical methods, by the movement of the planets ...

merryronetothebone; my server was havin problem for a while, U said you're a "Diego Boy" Then U know, Ronald "pro" Huggins of "PANATICS" , from by the water wheel, "bago'' , "blackie", Bruce, Ron, and "Felix" , Felix and I both tune for Panatics from 2012, to the present, if U do not know them, that's not no problem what so ever, Kenneth Clarke and David Maundy I know as members while we were in Pan Am North Stars, Seebaran I don't , what I was told by Williams as I was in the US in 1972 was, that it was Pat Seebaran, Edward Moore, and Lloyd Weeks, who tried too overthrow him / take over the band, via sabotaging the big tenor pans instruments, so on the last night of rehearsal he/Williams said fellar's, play one more tune and pack up the pans, they never knew what he mean't by that untill they return for rehearsal, but if, I was in T&T, that could not have EVER HAPPENED...
