Nestor
It is interesting that you mention panorama in Barbados since no such thing exists here. We also do not have a steelband association. What we have are showcases at cropover. These were usually held for at least four nights where local bands would perform and culminated with a large on the beach event called pan pun de sand. Bands from other territories are invited to perform. This year financial constraints reduced those showcases to two, including that on the beach. Bands from Grenada and Antigua also performed.
Barbados has been struggling for a long time in the steelband arena with no real solution in sight. Last year a planned panorama was cancelled and some attempt was made to form an association this year but there was no success.
It would be a pity if panorama became a thing of the past in any of our territories, not only because of the revenue which it generates but this is an activity that gives people an identity; it is an opportunity for nationals to forget all their worries; a time to demonstrate skill and simply a time for merrimemt. A solution has to be found and soon.
