〜STEELPAN × YOSAKOI ~スティールパン×よさこい正調踊り ~

arajuku/Omotesando Super Yosakoi Festival 2019. One of the biggest festivals in Tokyo took place at various locations in Shibuya's Meijijingu, Yoyogi Park and Omotesando, etc. The Yosakoi Festival originated in Kochi, and Super Yosakoi can be seen in Tokyo with about 800,000 people attending the 2018 festival. This year, as part of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games’ Host Town Culture Exchange project for Central and South American countries, a steelpan band called 『UTT PAN PHOENIX』 from the University of Trinidad & Tobago was invited to Japan! Steelpan was invented in Trinidad & Tobago and is one of the representative instruments of the Caribbean. Also, Olympic Team Captains and various support staff from Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, US Virgin Islands and Trinidad & Tobago, as well as Grenadian soca singers V'ghn and Boyzie joined with Kanto area steelpan players, an international group of yosakoi dancers, and UTT PAN PHOENIX to form "YOSAKOI Phoenix" and performed a special cultural collaboration of steelpan and the traditional Japanese Kochi Yosakoi Festival. At the end, Kochi's City Council Yosakoi Team and Tentekomai Yosakoi Team as well as the audience joined in for a final performance of steelpan and Seicho by over 150 dancers with the crowd going wild!
