During the1920s, American record companies continued to record Artistes from Trinidad in New York for distribution to Caribbean and Latin American markets. During this era some West Indian artists gave up the traditional calypso singing for the American style of jazz singing.
One of those artists was a Trinidadian named Sam Manning who settled in New York in the 1920's and became a successful performer in both vaudeville and theater.
