Continuing with their series of covers of famous B-sides, Mat Britain and Dan Moore turned to the Doobie Brothers' classic, Black Water. Not every pop song translates well to percussion instruments but this Ben Wahlund arrangement just seemed to click right from the beginning. Of course, the recording benefitted from the BMD's infectious "funky dixieland" groove and was certainly influenced by their listening to this great tune since the 1970s. The studio recording featured arranger Ben Wahlund on marimba, Mat on lead pan and percussion, Ben Yancey on double 2nds, and Dan on vibes and percussion. The live video performance featured Mat, Dan and Ben Yancey, along with help from Andy Thierauf, Emily Roane, Peter Naughton, and Ginny Armstrong. Beautiful Southern River photos from Curtis Nugent.
