Therefore in Carnival Messiah, Handel’s aria ‘I Know That My Redeemer Liveth’ , sung by the Voice of Truth and danced by the Dove of Peace, is re-carnivalized and re-imagined as RedeemeR, equating instead the Christian institution of resurrection with the emancipation, freedom and liberation of black people.
