DAVID RUDDER HAMMER.Steelpan OLUJIMI LA PIERRE

This was my dream as a kid, and I brought it to fruition. I personally think that the steelpan needed to be up with technology. It also needs to be recognized more around the world. The steelpan fraternity needs to be more aggressive with pushing the steelpan forward. Over the last 20 years, it was stuck in the same dimension. This particular video demonstrates the musician playing the E-Pan in the same traditional way that the steelpan is played, enjoying the same note positioning etc. It is in no way, form or fashion designed to replace the steelpan . This particular video, the tone that is being played is a digital, generic, steelpan tone and will not compare with most people's acquired preference of steelpan tuner tones (e.g. Guppie, Bertie Marshall etc.). There is no digital instrument that sounds exactly like the traditional. As technology advances, the digital tone will get closer and closer. The steelpan fraternity needs to be more aggressive and very positive to continue to break down walls and hurdles to be accepted and recognized the world over. When Steel Talks is doing what they can to spread the world and message about the steelpan the world over. So many steelpan players travel the globe annually in an effort to spread the same message. I came up with the E-Pan doing the same. In Canada, hockey is number one in every community and school. That hockey culture is marketed and defended at all cost by Canadians. The Canadian people and Government market hockey worldwide. When a student leaves school in Canada and is a good hockey player, he or she makes millions, living comfortable for the rest of their lives. Why can't the pan fraternity embrace and do the same ... starting with you all the way up to the highest level of government in Trinidad and Tobago. In so doing you will be paving the way for our children and grandchildren. There is no reason why I cannot sit back in the future and watch my children and grandchildren receiving grammeys for using and playing the steelpan as their instrument of choice.

Unfortunately, in Canada and several other parts of the world, the steelpan is taught as early as the elementary school system, as a subject, during the day, in school. Just as you learn math and english and in my home country, Trinidad and Tobago, the land of steelband and calypso, this is still not the case. Maybe you can let your voice be heard there in that forum to break down those walls. The world and the pan fraternity has never seen an electronic steelpan such as the E-Pan before and if the only think that could come out of your mouth is that.........., I strongly think that you need to visit www.napeinc.com and learn about the capabilities of the E-Pan and WHY I have not installed a genuine steelpan tone in the instrument as yet.

I can assure you that Jimi's is all raw talent. He has untapped skills that he does not even know he has. Perfect pitch. He can play any instrument as he just demonst
