  • Thanks Steve,

And just Monday November 28th 2011, one of the double tennor pannist that played at this competition in August of 1967, passed on. His name was Bertrum "Speedy" Ash. He is the 12th member to pass since. Bertrum was also cousin to Dennis "Tash" Ash, one of the crackshot double second pannist of that time. I am indeed surprised that no one from the NY pan dispora posted this infomation about "Speedy" (RIP)

Again thanks for posting this Desperadoes performance. At that competition all the Steel Orchestras performed three tunes; A tune of Choice, A Calypso Piece and the Test Piece entiiled, "The Merry Wives of Windsor."       I recall when one of the adjudicators stated, "If I were a Millionaire, I would have taken the winning Orchestra all over the world to perform at the great Music Halls." The tuner of the the instruments is

    James "Bassman" Jackman.

  • This piece was Arranged and Conducted by Mr. Raymond "Artie" Shaw and he guided Desperadoes to the Gold Medal in the Champ of Champs Festival of 1967 with this Magnificent Rendition .
