When Steel Talks captured Desperadoes Steel Orchestra preparing for the 2004 Trinidad & Tobago national panorama competition. The selection is calypsonian Shadow's "Whop Cocoyea," as arranged by the late master arranger Clive Bradley. This is a cool down version. Although Desperadoes with "Whap Cocoyea" did not win the competition, it is one of the most fascinating arrangements ever made for the steel orchestra. Moreover, the marriage between arranger, band and community through that song is the ultimate realization of a panorama piece. Clive Bradley has many great music work - Whop Cocoyea may be his most culturally significant. WST

  • I say Desperadoes' 4th place in 2004 was due to the gradual tempo increase.

  • CONGRATULATIONS to you Brant Wilson, on becoming the latest Inductee into The Bermuda Musical Hall Of Fame. It's people like you, who continually push the envelope and defy the odds, who makes the greatest difference in this world. You never allowed your limitations to be a hindrance or discouragement in you drive towards excellence. You are truly an inspiration to us all.

  • I've always felt that the speed on the panorama stage, takes away from the sweetness of a piece, that's why I enjoy the bull track vibes on the semis. The cool down version of this selection, arranged by the GOD of Steelband Arranging, is case in point. It's really special. Just listen to the piece from 5:48 to 6:08, it's one the greatest 20 seconds in the history of panorama music. It struck me the first time I heard it.............I still miss Clive....
