Decca's first Calypso record!
Gerald Clark played guitar on the first Single Tone Calypso ever recorded (Iron Duke In The Land), as well as on Wilmoth Houdini's, Atilla, The Lion... and here, Lord Beginner and The Tiger's first record. A true pioneer!

The song is a take on the Jamaican digging sing "My Donkey Want Water", played very slowly and I believe these lyrics influenced Gerald Clark & MacBeth's 1945 version. For example, "When he's on a journey, he always goes straight. You can bet your life he's a heavy weight". A whole decade before MacBeth would use those same lyrics and I'm not aware of any earlier use of such lyrics.
