Yeah I get it... I taught myself how to play 4 years ago and never took a pan lesson, so I learned based on what's comfortable. It comes down to this: The pan isn't a one-surface instrument, so what's the point in holding the mallets one way when the surfaces are in a circle? My wrists/fingers adjust to respond to that. I'm not trying to be you. I'm not trying to be "correct." What's important to me is that I get a chance to write music, arrange music, and most importantly, play music.
If there were no video, would we really know how he's holding the sticks? I guess he's comfortable holding them that way. More importantly, looks like dey getting wuk.
