Last night may have been a first in Steel Pan Band music history. Richard Rudolph (aka Pan Daddy), owner and Director of the Roanoke, VA, Quest Academy School of Music, directed one of his several steel pan bands, the Parrot Pan Steel Band in playing the Pennsylvania Polka during a benefit concert for the Franklin County Lions Club Scholarship Fund. But this was not just an unusual pairing of the steel pan with Polka music. Pan Daddy added in 4 band members who accompanied the steel band playing the accordion in the arrangement. The combination of polka, steel pan music with the accordion music was amazing and added to the enjoyment of the audience.
