Soweto South Africa The Soweto Marimba Youth League (SMYLe) is an academic support project that uses music as a means of keeping at-risk youth in school. Based in the Dobsonville area of Soweto, SMYLe serves more than 100 learners from 14 affected schools, and each of us – both leader and learner – is committed to the following Core Values: Nothing beats seeing SMYLe in action, in person, but we have created our own YouTube page to host videos of our kids performing, for those who haven’t yet had the pleasure of seeing SMYLe perform. At present, the SMYLe team has a repertoire of more than 170 songs, and we hope to one day have ALL of the songs videotaped and uploaded on YouTube. We also hope that someone with some video editing talent will volunteer to help us develop a proper music video and ‘commercial’…so if you know someone who can help, please feel free to contact us (michael@iras.co.za)
