Timely and topical. Caption should have been "Dancing the Half Moon". The old Moon_dancers like 'Joseph' from DGM would roll over in their graves watching this. Brenda remembers correctly. Of more importance, please note number of participating blacks and youngsters of all kinds in the festival. Thanks for sharing. ASW
I too appreciate this video, it's 40 years I haven't seen Hosey, being from St James I knew most of the people who made the Tadjahs and beat the Tassa, by the way did anyone make out Pallham Goddard in the video? he is the guy in the black and pink jersey at 2:19 he is the second African Trini the beat the tassa in St James.
The Tassa today is made with some sort of metal and skin, back in the day it was clay and goat-skin which gave it a better sound. The Moon is danced the same way.
Brenda, you real know this thing!! To be honest I was not expecting any reaction on this posting. I must say you, like me, really love your Trini culture. You made my day. Thank you!

Hi Cecil, who was the first Afro-trini to beat the tassa drum in hosay? and in/around what year?

Brenda times have changed, even the sizes of the Tadjahs are smaller now. Thank you.
