  • JJJ: Thank you for all your advice because I believe that only through criticism one can improve. So I'll continue to work with the instrument, practice, practice, practice. My look up was not about expecting anything to come down but was just me giving thanks to the Creator, who blessed me with the talent. My father is a sensei and taught me Karate from a young age so some chopping is to be expected. The pan was recorded flat and the producer added reverb and echo to the mix so it may be the production and not the pan you are having issues with. The pan was tuned by Lloyd Gay and as far as I can see, there is only one cocky person on this forum and it certainly isn't me, mi amigo.

    • Aquil, I'm not criticizing U, it's what you're doing and the way you're doing it o k, ah ha, you say your dad 's a sensei, when he's or were teaching you to punch with one hand and block with the other, that is/was a defense mechanism, it's all about discipline, you see I'm also into martial arts as well, and at my Do Jo I'm also an assistant sensei in "Go Jo Ruy" Okinawan martial arts, Maui Tai, Aikido, and Jeet Kune Do, where I instruct both my sons, and others as well, now I just do Tai Chi to keep fit, and I can bet your dad always tells you to respect your opponents, so you can kick their asses, I did the same to my sons, both has Ekes, and can cut an individual in two, but they won't because of discipline, so always respect the pan, that's what you need for the pan discipline, as for the recording aspect, they use what a uni or omni directional microphone, that good for vocalists, not the pan, you need a trigger mic and pull all the highs on the track down, you don't need it, the pan is already a high pitch instrument, the humidity and or temperature always move instruments, that's why on every concert stages theirs two pianos on the site, one tuned at A 440 and the other at A 444, in concert halls over the world, instruments pitches move all the time, regardless of air conditioning, you're a PAN - ists, the pan is taking you, you're not taking it, with out it you goes no where, and you need to speak to your dad more about consequences or end results, and stop rushing the pauses, you need to slow down at times, for what it's worth... P.S. I almost forgot, I neglected to let you know that I am a sound and mixing engineering, as well, graduate 1982 C.P.C.C North Carolina, I've tuned pianos in Las Vegas, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Trinidad & Tobago St James Secondary, Baltimore Maryland etc etc etc...

      • JJJ, Mr. Claude said not to answer anyone. he is my manager now, sign on the dotted line and every thing. lol. so i don't want to end up in court for breach of contract. ha ha. So thanks for the comments bro. h

    • Aquil: If I tell you that you are the PAN MESSIAH -- that means that YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER to anybody again for the next 35 years until the next PAN MESSIAH arrive. Search your soul and ask yourself if "the weak left hand thing" is valid or not. And if he is right -- do what you got to do.

Next time, compliment or criticism -- KEEP YOUR ANSWER SHORT.

JJJ: Thank you for your advice!!!!

      PERIOD!!! FULL STOP!!! PUNTO FINAL!!!

Now go up and tell PATRICK RAMDOO "thanks" for the compliment!!! And keep it short!!!! LOL!!!

  • JJJ: At the ICP (International Conference on PAN) a man from Sweden came down and said that middle age women are the ones who mostly play the PAN and that they complained that the RINGING affected their hearing (ears) so they had to put DAMPERS on the PAN and he was asking if THE TUNERS could do something to solve that problem. Well they nearly run that man off the stage because you cannot criticize the PAN in front of TRINIS.

But I seldom hear a PAN where there is NOT RINGING (or NOISE -- re-echoing) and the notes are pure. (That is why I always get in trouble for saying that once you put more than THREE PAN TOGETHER -- yuh have NOISE.) Especially so in the higher octaves and the left side of the CIRCLE of FIFTHS PAN. So it seems that there is still decades of research to make the instrument whole. And as Keith Smith noted years ago most of the critics of PAN say the sound is too "TINNY TINNY". A tonality that just seems to appear and disappear at random during STEELBAND PERFORMANCES.

Despite that, the WORLD LOVES THE SOUND of the instrument.

I like your MASS PRODUCTION project!!!

    • Mi Amigo, tuning harmonics is like a dog running from the fire truck, or police sirens, it's like "Falsetto in music" it's not a true note, it's also like a sopranissimo singer or any female singer that don't know how to use her diaphragm, meaning,(the muscles between the chest and abdomen) when a singer inhale and exhales, which results in screaming, noise again, and hearing aides is like amplifying sound, "octaves" is the laws of music, and these so called harmonics tuners will never know the real thing, there are 7 notes in music, derived from the 7 evolving planets in the solar system, they are "Mercury,Venus Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn they are not in musical order, on the left side of OUR CIRCLE,of FOURTHS & FIFTHS moving clockwise, are partial notes not whole notes, they are part of notes like Bb or A#, Eb or D#, Ab or G#, Db or C#, Gb or F#, and in tuning them they needs to be tunes 100 of a cent flat,,Anthony Williams derived it/invented it, and Herman "rock" Johnston and myself aided him in it's further development, I need not say anymore at this time therefore; we three knows what makes these pans thick so to speak, so these people with hearing aides were quite correct with the dense dissonance that they heard , if you listen to the music I sent you, you will hears for your self the clean clearness of a well tuned circle of 4ths & 5ths big tenor pan,and the circle of 4ths & 5ths mega pan, the drove "Stevie Wonder" into that extraordinary harmonica solo on the "Panorama Jam" track...

  • After listening to this performance OVER 25 TIMES, I am GIVING UP up my LOYALTY to Andy Narell and handing it over to Aquil Arrindell. Now, that was a real hard decision for me after over 35 years of loyalty to Andy Narell.

But I now realize that Andy Narell was just a substitute until the PAN MESSIAH arrived!!!

I am no longer going to come on this forum and ask: Where is the music? Because I once was lost, but now I'm found. Was blind but now I CAN SEE ... was DEAF and now I CAN HEAR!!!

    • I would like to hear more of Aquil. He is pretty smooth. Would like to hear JJJ on one of his tenors too.
      • Patrick Ramdoo: I would like to hear more of Aquil, too.

    • Imagine that! Aquil you were able to accomplish what know one has been able to do. Claude take much "unnecessary" licks for that Andy fella.

Aquil after you send Rolly Polly and DePhoto to that resort call "Club Jail" I would like you to consider joining LeBron in dethroning Claude's team Golden State. They are in need of a guard. Claude got to Kyrie and messed up his head.

      bugs
