Global - In an exclusive interview with When Steel Talks, steelpan historian, musician, film director and journalist Dalton Narine shares his overall thoughts on Panorama - its past, present and future...
“Clive Bradley coming through clear in the wind on the hill in the year of the Cocoyea. He said he never had full control as an arranger for Desperadoes. They never told you such and such but you knew there was a ceiling. So he was never allowed the artistic freedom that he got from Dunlop Tornadoes. Or, Nutones...

  • An interesting interview. Mr. Narine, who through years of participating and covering the evolution of Pan and Panorama has given an indept concept of where we are presently, and where our Pan culture can be taken. I respect most of what he said. Because of his vast knowledge of the pan, which he accumulated through the years, I think that Pantrinbago should consider using that knowledge to their benefit by using his services as a Consultant. He may not have all the answers, but he may help in the further development of Pan and it attributes.

  • Quite an interesting layout by Mr. Narine. He is as sincere and as frank as one would expect him to be. His takes on the concepts of panorama and arrangerama truly posit the arguments for the 'then and now' of the steelband experience. I am both enthused and enthralled by the content and requests of this interview, and hope that the material does not simply fall by the wayside, but become fodder on which the 'powers that be' can feed in the quest to improve the carnival experience through pan in general.

  • Great interview.
