Diaz: I have right to call pan meeting

Newsday

JOAN RAMPERSAD Thursday, September 14 2017

PAN Trinbago president Keith Diaz yesterday insisted that as head of the pan body, he has a right to call any meeting at short notice to discuss matters pertaining to the national instrument. This after a meeting called on Tuesday was disrupted by protesting panmen who claimed Diaz was breaching Pan Trinbago’s rules by calling a meeting without notice.

He also denied reports that the meeting had to be called off because of the protests, adding that the meeting began at 6 pm and ended at 8.45 pm, with 62 percent of all bands registered with Pan Trinbago having a representative at the meeting. Gregory Lindsay, speaking on behalf of Concerned Individuals for Pan (CIP) challenged the legality of the Diaz’s meeting.

But contacted for comment yesterday, Diaz thundered: “According to the constitution I have a right as president to call a meeting at short notice. So I don’t know who is advising them or which lawyer is telling them things. The meeting was to brief members and they (CIP) were not there when I started it (the meeting). The circular was to deal with Panorama and no other business. It was very straightforward.” Diaz claimed that five people, “who never even played pan before” turned up and disrupted the meeting. “They are not panmen

  • Among the people who read this article in full, could somebody explain the "chutney" thing to me.

"Coming out of that meeting, was a plan to carry small bands semi-finals for Panorama to Chaguanas where each band will be required to play a Chutney song in addition to the usual Panorama tune ..."

  • 62% is 116 bands at two person a band. which is 232. ppl we have the video all over the social media. It and about 36 chairs half of which was empty and some ppl standing at the back. this man will lie for every thing so.

  • Keith Diaz through Joan Rampersad at Newsday..has lashed back at me personally and CIP's advocacy regarding constitutional compliance calling official gatherings of its members.......Mr. President..
There is no provision in the PanTrinbago constitution..... For such a meeting.....as the precedent advises....

Do you have 50000 dollars in damages per band to settle out of court?...Past behaviour being a forecast of future behaviour, o e can speculate that at court....you and the executive have fashioned quite the losing streak....Call a proper meeting give proper notice then we can move on.

Mr. President, unreservedly apologize for affecting your sensibilities in causing this disruption in your normal obedient service,.....but permit me to say,....it was instructive to mitigate any further legal risk to your presidential legacy of mismanagement within the administration of PanTrinbago..

No labor without struggle, no struggle without sacrifice,... The struggle continues...as does the one man protest continues

    I rest my case.
