I was following the development of this show since it was first announced -- in silence. I was very curious about the AMBITION (the massive scope of the show) and was waiting to see how it was going to PAN OUT!!!

  • Borders festival called off

Melissa Doughty Saturday, May 27 2017

THE ORGANISERS of Borders Festival, due to have started yesterday through to tomorrow, have rescheduled it after receiving a bill of $273,000 from the protective services to be paid within 24 hours.

Speaking with Newsday via phone yesterday, founder and organiser, Sheldon Monderoy said in addition to the bill received by the protective services, there was an additional expense which brought the total up to $500,000 to be paid in a 24-hour period. “We are going to do it again...The fact that I just lost $2 million in an attempt to do something good for this country and this country needs a festival like this,” he said. The festival was supposed to fund a national sporting database.

Monderoy said the festival could have gone for bigger names in the industry but instead chose to, “go for the artistes who don’t have visibility in this country.” It was admittedly difficult to get sponsorship for the event, he said, saying, “we had gone to everyone you could think of...

and we did not get a red cent from everyone to support this.

In a release, the organisers said refunds would be given from May 31 by going to the outlets where tickets were purchased.

  • Due to logistical issues which could not be overcome at short notice, the organizers of Borders Festival regrettably inform the public that the festival is being rescheduled to a future date to be announced.

We'd like to thank our thousands of fans and particularly our sponsors including BMobile, One Caribbean Media, Johnny Q, Development Finance Limited, Kalloos Auto Rental and the Hilton Hotel for their strong support. The organizers particularly wish to show our deepest gratitude to BMobile which stood by us from the beginning to the end in the interest of Trinidad and Tobago culture.

We also wish to thank the dozens of artistes both local and foreign who work with us. We fully stand by the Borders Festival Concept and look forward to putting on the type of entertainment event which to provide a showcase for Trinidad and Tobago talent and which our paying public deserves. This festival would not have been possible without the support of these artistes who stood by us throughout.

Fans who purchased tickets will be refunded starting from Wed May 31 by going to the outlets where they purchased the tickets. Online purchases will be refunded from June 15 when the online ticket service releases funds.

For any questions, please email info@bordersfestival.com. You also call at 784 3732 from Mon May 29.

    Sincerely,

    The Borders Festival Team
