  • I found a quiet moment, and had to come see what commess to find at WST today!  I'm glad y'all missing me lol!

On Panorama songs... I can see arrangers using Indigisounds to rehearse their arrangements before taking it to the yard.  They will know down to the note what they expect from each section.  I think they will use the tool in the most realistic manner... tracking a couple notes at a time for each section so that it doesn't sound like a bunch of octopus playing the pans.  I suspect they prefer a song with NO pan sounds in it so that they have the best opportunity to embellish parts of their arrangement without a dictation or prejudice laid out in a motif by the writer that requires repeating on the Panorama stage in order to be true to the song as written.  They may even be as irritated if there is a brass motif in the song that they feel they could improve on, but fear deviating from.  I don't think that Indigisounds will become part of Panorama recordings, but I do think they will take on a bigger role in TnT music on a larger scale... the more commercial soca, pop, reggae, chutney, rap and hip-hop... all kinds.  I think Panorama music will sound simple and clean as what the writers come up with, focussing on nice chord progressions and melodies, to give the arrangers and players something to have fun with.

What good would Panorama be if the arrangers were additionally constrained by the music they choose, that their arrangements come out sounding similar?  It's nice to see when an arranger really makes a mark on a tune with a genius arrangement that was beyond the imagination of the others, or that several bands came up with distinct interpretations of the same number.  I don't want to lose that.

    • Thank you Corey, I was just about to say the exact same thing..lol

  • Glenroy R Joseph, your statement can certainly put an end to this topic.

  • Cecil, I can safely say that no pan tuner's livelihood will be affected by this. If you research the global market out there you will see why.

    • Gerard, I'm happy to know that no pan tuner's livelihood will be affected by this. What I see is, we have the Pan, the Electronic Pan and a Alternative Steelpan Solution. What I know is, we have a sentimental investment in the pan which might not be the case globally. Reality is that the Pan is not the only kid on the block anymore, how this will play out? no one knows.

    • Gerard: Doh send the man to R-E-S-E-A-R-C-H!!! Just tell him that there is a RAVENOUS demand for ACOUSTIC PANS out there (GLOBALLY) that can hardly be met by SUPPLIERS.

  • The E-Pan and the PHI was ment to level the playing field for pan people, the pan could now sound like a piano, organ vibe ect. but the Indigisound people came and raise the bar a little higher giving the keyboard player a slight edge once more.

All this is done by Trini people trying to position themselves in a market that is about explode.

    • Cecil, boi -- ah waiting to hear ah E-Pan piece ah music on this forum. Not a SOLO with fingers!! A nice nice piece of music like "GET LUCKY" from INDIGISOUNDS. Ah go have to post that "GET LUCKY" again so that people could listen and comment without all the EGOMANIACS and the psychologically damaged and the miscomprehenders jumping in to play themselves above the objective of this forum: PAN MUSIC!!!

      • HAHAHA!!!! lol,LOL!!!

  • Yuh know?....come to think about it...Casym should really have been disqualified for using the E-pan...since historically Panorama has been about using acoustic instruments...Just Suggesting...lol
