Why no coverage of junior pan finals?

THE EDITOR: It is beyond disgraceful that not a single television or radio station saw it fit to broadcast the National Junior Panorama finals on Sunday.

This was a moment for our primary and secondary school youngsters to shine in the national spotlight, and silly-headed decision-makers ensured that it was not to be.

Yet the same people have no hesitation in showing us inanity in the form of this fete and that fete and a Calypso Monarch semi-final with many tuneless calypsonians.

As I scanned the television stations, just before 3 pm, this is what I saw: CNC3 — FIFA Magazine; Parliament Channel — Kamla Persad-Bissessar speaking; TV6 — Cup of Joe; CTV — Robin Hood; Gayelle — Addicted.

I will not even bother to tell you about the garbage played on the majority of the radio stations.

How are we supposed to encourage excellence in the overall development of our youth when the politicians and the broadcast decision-makers are working overtime to deny them same?

These youngsters practise for hours during their lunchtimes and after school. Their dedication to hard work is impressive.

This also highlights the loss of Channel 4 because, clearly, CTV is unable to fill the void.

CTV’s coverage of the Panorama semi-final was riddled with headache-inducing ads, repeated to a sickening degree. Its coverage of the Calypso Monarch semi-final was, at least, five singers behind, for what was labelled a “live” show.

I dread what it has in store for home-bound viewers for the National Panorama finals.

Is it true that the participants in the 2017 Junior Soca Monarch competition have not been paid their prize money by Caribbean Prestige Foundation?

  • Thank you.

We need more voices to speak out.

    • Aquil: As leader of THE CIP, you have access to THOUSANDS OF VOICES -- so you have no SHORTAGE of "voices" to SPEAK OUT.

Does he think broadcast time is free ?

      • Glenroy: I DID notice that the writer was complaining about ADS. Kind of comical!!!
