All the bands are now up and cracking. 2009 should be a great year for the panorama scene. There is still a lot of time join a band and play for panorama. St. Lucia - Panorama has been cancelled this year. The pan folks of St. Lucia have taken a stand. Sometimes pan people “got to do what they have to do.” It’s a simple equation - no respect - no pan. New York - ADLIB Steel Orchestra served notice to the “Big Three” that they no longer had a lock on the NY panorama championship when the Long Island-based band took the 2008 crown. ADLIB needs to place within the top three again this year to end any notion that their rise is a ‘flash in the pan.’ Look for the young, talented and driven ADLIB to make some serious waves. Toronto - Salah’s Steelpan Academy goes for the hat trick in Panorama after having won the last two years back-to-back. It’s been a challenging year for the Montreal-based orchestra, however the group continues to demonstrate resiliency beyond expectation. Grenada - Angel Harps goes for it’s second consecutive championship. Look for the competition to be very keen this year. United Kingdom - The steelband juggernaut known as Ebony Steelband goes for their 5th consecutive title this year. No steel orchestra has won as many national titles as they have. Look for Mangrove, though, to mount a serious challenge. Antigua - Halcyon Steel Orchestra looks to repeat 2008 winning ways. Nigeria - Nigeria’s Forces will be holding its panorama in November. click here for dates and locations
