The UNC, COP and Pan Trinbago.

The UNC, COP and Pan Trinbago.

By Aquil Arrindell

The UNC had a coalition government, sharing power with COP, MSJ and others who are not worth mentioning. The MSJ, took the moral high ground and left early. The COP, treating themselves with all the parliamentary privileges, stayed for the full five years, condoning all of the UNC’s alleged immoral and corrupt behaviour, under the guise of trying to change things from the inside. Then, just before elections, they pulled out and disassociated themselves from the UNC. Similarly, the Pan Trinbago executive had a group people who took the moral high ground and resigned early. While another group of men stayed on, under the guise of trying change things from inside, all while condoning all of the president’s, according to them now, immoral behaviours. They are now in the public domain, giving information about the president’s ticket scam; saying that he is a compulsive liar and every other thing they can think of. They are now trying to disassociate themselves from the president now that their bellies are full and the election is near.

So let me ask now, where were photo, pablow, scobby, sheppy, el salvadour and mr. tempo when the CIP members were saying the same things at the top of their voices? Let me answer, they were holding the president’s hands whilst they all sat at the head table and agreed with all the things he did. The central executive had multiple opportunities to report the president’s behaviours to the membership but money was passing so they were all quiet.

At that national general election, the COP did not win a seat and at the upcoming PT’s election, not one of the central executive will. Even the infamous permanent secretary, whom the organization cannot seem to get rid of, will go this time. Judging from the central executive’s actions, they know the writing is on the wall. However, I may be wrong, probably it is just a handful of CIP men making trouble because they want power. Then if so, seeing that the executive without question has collapsed; the President in one corner; other executive officers in the next; every Monday morning both parties on the media bringing the organization into public disrepute; the NCC not giving Pan Trinbago money because they are a failed executive; then let us just go to the poles. Embrace the early election recommended by judge Boodoosingh. Really, if the central executive is confident that they have served the organization selflessly, the membership will surely vote them back in. So why insist on staying when they know things are continuously getting worse under the stalemate situation between the president and themselves?

mr. photo, when Mr. Dane Gulston demanded your immediate removal and an early election, he was not doing it on behalf of himself, he was speaking on behalf of the 90+ financial bands (the membership) that voted you and your gang out at last month’s meeting. Yes, mr. photo, we know the audit is due in October. We can still have an early election and suspend the audit until then. At a general meeting the membership has the autonomy to make that decision. We, the membership, know that the election is only five months away. We also knew that four weeks ago, when the membership voted the executive out at the extraordinary general meeting. The membership, in their best judgment, sees it fit not the wait, as you guys are causing major damage to our organization on a daily basis. And according to judge Boodoosingh, the constitution allows members to get rid of an executive at any time, even if it is one month before or just days before the election. If the membership decides that you are an immediate threat to our organization, we can remove you with immediate effect. So why fight the membership mr. photo? According to you ‘is the membership who put you there’. Well, is the membership who want you out right now!

Central executive officers, offer yourselves to serve once again and call an early election.  Stop delaying the inevitable. The organization is suffering, starving and crying loudly and your selfishness is allowing you all to turn a blind eye and deaf ear. Let good sense prevail for the sake of the steel pan fraternity. Call the special convention and early election now.

  • I fail to get the political correlation. Sounds as if the writer is using the PNM as the yardstick by which we could measure success for the other PanTrinbago.

    • PNM was never in my thoughts....

it just had a similar situation that happened with these three parties (MSJ, COP, and UNC) that is much like Pan Trinbago's present situation.

      • Aquil: After EVERYTHING I try to teach you about POLITICS IN TRINIDAD yuh come running on THIS FORUM trying to hide under ARCHIE PNM DRESS?

        • This article has absolutely not to do with PNM. At least thats my point of view.

      • Aquil: Ah let yuh off the hook on that one -- but Mercer called you out!!!

As DONALD TRUMP would say: VERY BAD!!!

  • ha.... i love that prospective.......

  • Interesting press release "published" on behalf of the CIP. Considering the analogical structure of the subject of this discussion, is it reasonable to conclude that "the author" may be comparing Trinidad and Tobago politics, with the Politics of Pan Trinbago, likening the CIP to the PNM, and hinting that they may rise to power, and unseat Pan Trinbago's current UNC/COP model of corrupt governance, with another Tobagonian at the helm?

    FOOD FOR THOUGHT.

  • Ah thought that FORTEAU and HIS BAND were elected to serve until OCTOBER 2018.

How could men just walk up to them now and tell dem to STEP DOWN!!! And think that they will just STEP DOWN.

Is this a NEW KIND OF DEMOCRACY?
