Thornbury steel band all set for Brittany tour

A STEEL band from a school in Thornbury will take their music to the continent next month as they prepare for a tour of Brittany.

Members of The Castle School’s band Panache are set to travel across the channel in July, where they will perform and run workshops in a number of villages as part of the twelfth tour in the long running history of the band.

The 12 students, aged between 14 and 16, will enjoy their time away from the usual performances at weddings, fairs and concerts, in a rather traditional atmosphere as they stay in a converted windmill.

Sophie Whitfield, who plays single second pan in the band, said “I really enjoy playing in Panache and I’m looking forward to going to Brittany. It’s going to be a great experience.”
