Time for East pan grouping

By Orvis Noel -- St Augustine

The Panorama verdict is in, the results are out.

I must admit my bias. I am an ex-Flamingoes member and band manager. I am now all Exodus, but how much can one band take? The East bands were shut out for most part.

The Panorama results confirm what many pan supporters long suspected and it is now time to put up or shut up.

It's time for a new eastern steelband association comprised of willing participants from Mayaro to San Juan as a rival to Pan Trinbago. The objective of such an association is quite clear.

It is a tall order but it can and must be done — an organisation working for and on behalf of its members and more so, in the interest of the steelband industry

These geographical districts have the steelbands (products), the right age groups (youths), the energy, the musical knowledge, and administrative experience to do the job for their steelbands and pannists.

Pan Trinbago is in turmoil. Its executives are unable to do the job. They are not up to the challenge. Year after year is the same “ole talk”. That's just not good enough anymore.

  • We need to hear from more members in the East .This is a great idea.

  • Anything is better than Pan Trinbago.
