VIBE OF THE SLOW JAM.....

I happen to stumble upon a video of Utopia Pan Soul playing Vengeance and it put me in a place that made me wonder why is it that most young people in the Mecca don't feel this VIBE, there is nothing like that slow jam.

We mainly speak about panorama or classical music but rarely the "slow jam"

This is practice music, it is the music that move the steelbands, it is the VIBE of the steelband, the soul of the steelband and it is also why the steelband is rejected by young people today.

The Mecca will be a sad place without the vibe that the slow jam brings.

    • Still loving these slow jams...have any more?

      • Denette,

You can check out my playlist Pan Oh Rama "Coasting" Slow Jamz  4 hrs.

        • I am still listening to Pamberi-Play one. Maybe my favorite so far. You have 4 hours of these??!! How do I find your playlist?

      • Pamberi - Play One

        Arranger: Godwin Bowen

        Composer: Black Stalin

  • Seems like no one remembers this one......David,Bradley and Nutones captured the nuances that are crucial to come out at the top of Rama.....and many still cannot accept the speed....or lack of speed.

    • oswald alexander,

Bradley left us with all there is to be known about the "Vibe Of The Slow Jam"

    • Oswald,

Bradley comments on Panorama came to mind when I was posting the liner notes from the 1982 Steelband Musical Calypso Rhapsody. In 98, he said "my main concern is setting this thing forward as an example to what can be done with this kind of music, what kind of changes can be made and what kind of music can be acceptable."

22 years ago the accusation was made about those who would restrict this style rendition of calypsoes by the steelbands in the Rama. Are we killing the art-form?
