  • Experience does not happen overnight. There was way too much hype over Andre being the arranger for Despers. Had he been quietly allowed to do his thing, this might have been a different discussion. We in the pan community should be encouraging all young arrangers. Tearing them and their music down is not the way to go. Remember the old music masters? some were thought of as mad, however today we are still enjoying their music. While we are all of us entitled to our "learned" opinion, lets be sensitive to what it takes to come up with fresh new ideas.

Andre you have only just begun, keep honing your craft. People will always have something to say.

    • Well said ama belfon.

      • Robert was there last year and they did not ask for his input..I found that to be perplexing.Since the tune of choice was ''Prophet Of Pan'' a tribute to Boogsie Sharpe...one would think a few snippets of Boogsie's music should have adorn the arrangement..that's where the experience comes in. Robert would have incorporated some sharpe's music into the interpretation Perhaps Andre may get another chance down the road, but I think working alone for Despers ''For the first time'' was a blunder.

        • The opportunity Andre had rarely happens, too bad it did not work out.

  • I think they feel he is not experience enough. The young man was baptize by fire.

    • Quite right.

      • Bertel,  WITCO did not appreciate the fact that their name was not displayed to the world on panorama final night so they got rid of "D New Kid On D Block" They don't care about Despers as much as they do about the name WITCO.

        • Cecil, to be honest with you I thought that Andre's music was boring, and I would not be surprised if ALL the judges thought the same, it did not surprise me Despers did not get in.I am no Music expert, but I think I have a good enough Panorama ear.

          • I am by no means experienced in this arena and I have seen Andre in  action, although there is no comparison to the more experienced arrangers I enjoy what he and the young arrangers are doing to the craft by taking tbe music to an international leveI (just my take on it).

          • Bertel, In hindsight I will have to say that what happen was best for Andre, had he won he would have "been there done that" at such a young age. What we will see now is a killer arranger in the making.
