Merrytone you have raised some very interesting points. Still it boils down to too many small bands and single pan bands. Like Mr. Jules said that was stage that was passed long ago.

No Bugs….if "they" made and stuck to a "one-band-one-player" and "one-band-one-arranger" rule all wiil be solved…by leaving it open …conveniently….the morass will continue…Pan Trinbago chooses to ignore the player prostitution because it benefits certain bands and in turn certain executive members of Pan Trinbago…Yuh want to bet if serious restrictions were made most of the Single Pan and Medium Bands will disappear?…Outside of the Big 5 All Stars, Phase II, Despers, Renegades and Exodus, most if not all other Large bands a re indeed glorified Medium Bands and is gets worse in the medium category. One arranger friend who campaigned in the Medium category told me that this year he almost made the Semis with 32 players….yuh readin'?…32…that is less than the lower limit for a Small Band…do proper research before yuh pass yuh mouth on we brother…Tell the competition organizers to get their house in order…not we who choose to bat in we crease…As I said on this forum before, nobody ever asked for categories, so to come now and blame Small and Single Pan Bands because the people on the Greens ignoring the Large bands can't hold water...
Glenroy if they move the single and small band panoramas out of the carnival season - all problems will be solved.

Personally , I think that there is a need for a format which allows for the participation of small and single pan bands.
The bands are not static , and some bands have successfully moved up through the categories.
As we all know, Skiffle for example , was once a single pan band. ( And Btw , I never could understand why they dropped the "Bunch" from their name , I thought "Skiffle Bunch " was a unique and suitable name for a band , but that's just me, I hope the reason was not to be politically correct).
However , the current Panorama format doesn't seem to be amenable to four categories ( competitions) given the restrictions and limitations of a short , crowded carnival season .
Again I have my own ideas , but where do we go from here ?
So what took you so long?…Now that you came up the answer that I expected understand that because those 15 Large Bands define Panorama, they also define the fete on the Greens too…You say Small Bands are awful and the masses don't want to see or hear them?…Well in very much the same way the masses use the opportunity presented by the Large Bands to "ignore them" and fete the afternoon and night away…right in front they face…Tell me which is worse, Don't come to see or hear me or Turn yuh back and party hard while ah playin?…eh?...Look at the recent video posted right here again for confirmation…You could blame Small and Single Pan Bands till yuh hoarse…if anybody is at fault it is the "competition" organizers for not effectively managing Panorama over the years thus allowing it to explode into the free-forall that it is today….
To answer your question directly Merrytones, the answer is a resounding yes! We do need 10 out of 15 large bands in the final. From a marketing and musical standpoint those 10 bands pretty much define Panorama.

….and also Bugs neither you nor Patrick have yet answered my question…ah waitin' still...
Val there is no need to suppress the small and single pan bands. You can't make the people want what they don't want. They are artificially propped up. Check the finals next week.

Bugs My Bro. With all due Respect This is one that I don't agree with You. The reason why I dis agree is Because Panorama and Steel Bands are our thing. We cant only cater for the Large Bands. We have the Best and most Pan and Pan Players in the Universe. All the Bands that take Part is one of the reason that We are the Mecca of the Steelband. We cant only feeds the Big Fishes ''aka'' Large Bands. Every body have to eat a food. Its very selfish to suppress the Smaller Bands. What we do in Trinidad for Panorama is very Unique and should be applauded. Panorama brings a Certain Joy to Young and Old Players alike. I really believe that We should Continue with all the Steel bands that take Part. This is what makes us who We are.
Point well taken , Bugs.
Maybe also too many bands?
Trying to get a few panorama dollars?
This may also account for what I call the 'gypsy" panist phenomenon !
