Carnival 2015 gets an early start with the launch of Panorama on Sunday.
The event, “Reach for the Stars….Pan In Ecstasy”, is a belated Christmas gift for steelpan music lovers takes place on Sunday December 28th 2014, at the Car Park, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, from 4:00pm to 12 midnight.
Entertainment for the Launch comprises a stellar cast of past and present steelband champions, Massy Trinidad All Stars, bp Renegades, Supa Novas, Pan Jammers, Pan Elders and Fusion Steel. Roy Cape All Stars & Blaxx, Iwer George and KC Klass Is Klass will also be in attendance.
For an entrance fee of $100., patrons can walk with their coolers. Tickets are available at the regular outlets as Cleve’s Frederick Street, Crosby’s St. James, Kam’s Lomg Circular Mall, at Pan Trinbago offices and at the gate on the day of the Launch.
This year, Pan Trinbago celebrates the pan players and their music.
As, Keith Diaz, President, said at a recent function: “When the Steelband Panorama was conceptualized, it opened a door for a sort of grassroots sophistication to enter.
“Even in those early years, Steelbands being subject to a dynamic environment sought to reach for the stars.
“Both tuners and arrangers felt an urge to respond to the powerful call of urgency and excitement which compelled musical excellence….”
Approximately three (3) weeks after, the first competition, Northern Region National Single Pan Preliminaries, takes place at the Paddock, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Friday January 2015, from 6:00 pm, leading up to the National Semi Finals aka “Savannah Party” on Saturday January 31st and Sunday February 01, 2015, respectively, at the same venue.
Then it’s on to the Grand Finals of both categories. The Single Pan & Small Conventional Band Finals will once again be held in the South, Skinner Park, on Thursday February12 at 6:00pm while the Medium & Large Conventional Band Finals take place at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday February 14, from 7:00 pm.
