Chase Manhattan Savoys Steel Orchestra performing 'Dama Antanona' from the Steelband Festival Finals of 1966. The other finalists in 1966 were North Stars, Starlift, City Syncopators and Guinness Cavaliers.

Hi Folks. The following people were members of Savoys 1966.
Tenors: Rufus Grant, Boyie Assair (deceased) Carlisle Battersby, Vaughn, Deuce Pip. Jemma Worrel Sealy, (One of the only female players at that time) Seconds:Boysin, Freddie,Goosey (deceased) Lawrence Bell. Double Tenors: Martin Albino, Rudolph Boyke. Guitars: Herman Cravelle, Dick, Eugene Thomas(deceased) ,Victor Clarke. Cellos: Learie Sutherland, Russel Wilson.Tenor Basses : Earl Callender, Elton Greenidge,.Basses: Cecil Phillip, Mickey Enoch (deceased) : Rhythm: Osmond Charles (deceased), Patrick Thomas, Leo Kowlessar. Robbie Greenidge, My favourite player, was a member at this time, but I am not sure if he performed at the Festival.

This tune brings back some sweet memories.  Those were the days when pan was everywhere.  We did not receive a lot of money, but our hearts was into it.  And to think people still wonder why it is called a steel orchestra.  Excellent piece..  Thank you very much WST I deffinitely listen.

most clean recording thank you that is real pan music makes me smile i was present at queens hall played for city syncopators when we won the prime minister trophy

Martin, Thank you for acknowledging the names of these players.  Everyone who played then was proud of their accomplishment.  Now my heart is bursting with pride for the efforts of those early players.

I remember hearing this when i was little that's the year i started playing the steelpan, i then joined this band 2 years later.

  This is so nostalgic. What a pity only audio recordings were done then.
