More than 125 steel pan musicians will perform in the “20 Years of Inside Out Steelband in Austin” concert Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at McCallum High School Arts Center Auditorium, 5600 Sunshine Drive. Members of the Inside Out Community Steelband will be joined by steelbands from McCallum and Bowie High Schools in Austin and Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, along with alumni who have played in Inside Out affiliate groups through the last 20 years. Director CJ Menge established the Inside Out Steelband Arts in Education program in 1996. For two decades the nonprofit has been the unifying force behind steelband organization in Central Texas. Because of Inside Out and its affiliate programs, Austin has established itself as a center of contemporary steelband culture. The 20th anniversary concert is free and open to the public. This event should have been posted much earlier. There is a large community of pan lovers in Houston Texas and the surrounding areas that would have loved to attend. This late notice puts us at a disadvantage to travel the distance within a 24 hour notice.
