LAVENTILLE STEELBAND FESTIVAL FONDATION

EMANCIPATION STEELBAND STREET PARADE

The Laventille Steelband Festival Emancipation Street parade is now a major established event on the national calendar and has been incident free since its inception 13 years ago. The parade will again be held under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency President George Maxwell Richards.

Over the years the Parade has attracted many thousands of people along the Eastern Main Road including the President, Prime Minister, Government Ministers, Commissioners of Police and other top dignitaries. This year is expected to be no less different as patrons have grown to love these well-organized events and seize the rare opportunity to a part of the Laventille community.

The Parade will consist of steelbands from the expanded catchment area which lies between Charlotte Street in Port of Spain and the Croisee in San Juan. A total of 19 conventional and 21 traditional steelbands reside in this area and current National Panorama Champions in all categories are specially invited.

Date: Sunday 5^th August 2012

Time:  4.00 pm to 12.00 midnight

Route: Mc Allister Street to Leon Street along the Eastern Main Road, Success Village, Laventille

Program: Starts with Emancipation Story, Drumming and Dancing as a Road Show, followed by Tamboo Bamboo, Rhythm Sections and Steelbands

In celebration of the 50^th Anniversary of Independence of Trinidad & Tobago, the 2012 program will be the biggest ever with additional steelbands invited and the fantastic Tattoo display of the Defence Force band to lead the Street Parade
