Professor Paschal Yao Younge is a multi-talented interdisciplinary musician, scholar, composer, author and performer. In November he will visit Oakland University.

At 8 p.m. on Friday, November 4 Professor Younge will join OU’s Akwaaba African Ensemble, Ngoma World Percussion Ensemble, Pan-Jumbies Steel Band and Afram Jazz Band for a World Music Concert in Varner Recital Hall.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, Professor Younge and OU’s Akwaaba African Ensemble, under the direction of Mark Stone, will give a free community workshop at the Pontiac Creative Arts Center, to be followed by a 4 p.m. concert, also free to the public.

Paschal Yao Younge is a professor of music education at Ohio University. He presents world percussion music and dance forms internationally, focusing on styles from Africa and the African Diaspora, and has shared the stage with many international performing artists and groups such as: Ju Percussion, Nexus, Azaguno, Percussion Ensemble Chung Ang, Cie Cameleon, Abbos Group, Satriya Budaya, Global Rhythms World Music Ensemble, Micheal Burritt, Glen Velez, Tomoyuki Okada, Halim El-dabh, Akin Euba, Choi Jong Sil, Thomas Lang, Tomohiro Yahiro, Dudu Tucci, Liam Teague, Lalo Davila, Shrinivas Krishnan, Tony Royster, and others.

Tickets for the World Music Concert in Varner Recital Hall are $8 all seats. Varner Recital Hall is located on the Oakland University campus at 371 Varner Drive. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map. Ample free parking will be available in lots 24 and 26.

Tickets may be purchased online without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Varner Box Office on OU’s campus. Tickets ordered online or by phone can be picked up at the box office one hour before the performance begins.

The community workshop and concert at Pontiac’s Creative Arts Center are both free. The Center is located at 47 Williams St, Pontiac. More information is available on the center’s website.
