Salah & Family In Concert / Montreal International Steelpan Festival

Salah & Family invites you to come and celebrate their 21st Anniversary as a Steelpan Group. You will be entertained by the group “Salah & Family Steelpan Workshop” which includes Salah, his wife Adiylah, their six children and two grand children, with a repertoire of varied styles of music on the Steelpan that spans two decades. The event will take place at their private school “Salah’s Steelpan Academy” and will be held for two days on May 23rd, and May 24th 2009, from 7pm on both days.Some of the Groups Achievements include five days at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and numerous high level events across the province of Quebec. The group has participated in Panorama competitions in Trinidad, Boston, Montreal and Toronto. Combining with ‘Salah’s Steelpan Academy’, they have won the Panorama competition four times in Montreal and four times in Toronto including the last two years of 2007, 2008 at both places. Accredited to them are three Compact Disks. They have also set up a steelpan store “Steelpan Plus” in Montreal with a franchise in Toronto run by Hameed Shaqq. They have their own recording company ‘Salahpan’ which is the same company that has published six steelpan text books to date, authored by Salah Wilson. Three of the books are available in French.The family group introduced Steelpan programs to the public schools of Montreal since 1991 and are currently in seven English schools and one French school. They are also responsible for putting in place the ‘Montreal International Steelpan Festival’ which is an annual event that falls around the last weekend in June. This year is the ninth anniversary, it will be held on June 28th, 2009. It is also referred to as ‘Montreal’s Panorama’. Steelbands from Boston, Toronto, Trinidad and Montreal have been participants. There will also be a raffle of a High Quality Soprano Steelpan complete with Pan Case, Pan Stand, Pan Sticks and Steelpan Text Book, worth a value of $2,000.00. This will be drawn at the Montreal International Steelpan Festival on June 28th 2009. All are invited to participate including over the internet.
