For their 2015 concert, The WWU Steel Band will perform with Victor Provost, widely regarded as one of the young masters of the unique and misunderstood instrument – the steel pan. Provost has performed at The Kennedy Center, Shanghai Concert Hall, and numerous festivals and universities around the globe. He is a dazzling soloist, combining deep roots in Caribbean music with a contemporary sensibility. He recently performed with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra in his home country of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
The WWU Steel Band, which formed in 2002, has toured the West Coast twice, the East Coast four times, and also the island of Bermuda.
On Sunday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. the band will reprise their annual concert at the Gesa Power House Theatre. All proceeds will go toward WWU Steel Band scholarships and recruitment of steel drummers to the program.
