10th Annual Panorama to showcase steel drum bands in Baltimore County Public Schools

The Parkville High School Steel Drum Band, led by Chris Gnagey, will host the 10th Annual Panorama concert featuring performances from the following Baltimore County Public Schools with steel drum programs: Stoneleigh Elementary, General John Stricker Middle, Hereford Middle, Catonsville High, Parkville High, Perry Hall High, and Sparrows Point High.

Each band will perform several selections on its own including calypsos, socas, classical, and rock. At the highpoint of the evening, the bands will combine forces to create a 120-piece steel band and perform two calypsos.

The Catonsville High School Steel Band, which began in May 1991, was the first public school steel band program in the state. Other steel band programs followed: General John Stricker Middle School in 2000, Stoneleigh Elementary School in 2001, Sparrows Point High School in 2002, Parkville High School in 2008, Hereford Middle School in 2009, and Perry Hall High School in 2011.

Through the years, many internationally-renowned pan (steel drum) greats, including Ray Holman, Andy Narell, and Ken "The Professor" Philmore, have worked with the school bands
