2020 National Calypso Monarch Terri Lyons received her prize of $800,000 on Wednesday 8th, April. Terrri Lyons daughter of the legendary Austin Super Blue Lyons won the title with her biting commentaries “Obeah” and “Meghan my Dear”, while  Karene Asche and Heather Mac Intosh-Simon placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The official cheque distribution process started last Friday at TUCO’s Head office for  finalist of both the National Calypso Monarch and Extempo Monarch.
Unfortunately we were unable to celebrate this moment due to the covid-19 pandemic and Governments’ heed to exercise social distancing.
In spite of this, it was not all a sombre mood for the finalist of the Calypso Monarch Competition as each received an ex gratia increase in their prizes.
With the reintroduction of two songs in the finals, the Trinbago Unfiied Calypsonians’ Organization would have made representation to the NCC and saw it prudent to reward creatives, as the National Calypso Monarch Competition continues to be the most prestigious and coveted title in Carnival.
TUCO reminds their members to be safe during this time and continue to heed the advice of the Ministry of Health.
