A GOOD PLACE TO START

Seeing that the government is awake to matters concerning pan it is a good time to put  back the issue of Panorama prize on the front burner before they go back to sleep.

A good place to start is by removing 300,000 from the other prizes and add it on to the  panorama prize, if they don't want to do that just bump-up panorama prize to 2mill. It is the right thing to do.

  • There are lots of 'organized' steelbands in TnT who are able to take care of their own affairs and do co commendably. The problem is that there is no Steelband Association to present a unified voice of the steelbandsmen to the powers that be. Pantrinbago is like the West Indies Cricket Board. What panmen need is a West Indies Players Association equivalent to take the needs and wants of the panmen to Pantrinbago for execution.

I'm sure by now, especially with the youth coming through, that the panmen can get together, hold meetings and organize themselves into an association that represents them all. Then they can petition Pnatrinbago to represent them to government. Pantrinbago's role should be solely an advocate body listening to the panmen through their association and meeting with the relevant ministers etc. to promote pan.

That is the only way forward

    • You got it Wayne.

  •  Greetings: That is the real problem my brother. You see it is like trying to break that slave mentality of being fed to become the breadwinner. They don't want to take  that chance. Marcus Garvey often reminded us that no one respects a beggar Give thanks Dr. Lance Seunarine

    • Ras Lance, I am quite sure there are a few steelbands that will welcome the idea of organizing but no one has ever put forward a plan. If one were to get the captains together with a plan I am sure that the majority will go for it.

Pan people today are younger, much smarter and is see of what is happening around them all that has to be done is get them involved.

      • Ras Lance another thing the sponsors of steelbands should make available their lawyers and business professionals to assist the bands in moving forward.

  • You are right on the money here Cecil. Throwing in a carefully planned income earning tour abroad for the winner is a possibility also.

  • : I had posted earlier a similar comment that Brother Hinkson has posted. Maybe we can see if each   panyard can be organized as a business entity, then they could collectively agree to be a subsidiary of Pan Trinibago following all the business acumen. They would function separately from PanTT; do the things that Ama Belfon suggested too. Pan TT role should be limited  e.g, to establishing a museum, looking after the elders etc. ( I  don't think we can ill afford to have them conduct any negotiations since it has taken them near eternity to move to the next phase of getting the HQ in order). My only selfish reason is: I do not want to see  what Maestro  experienced happen to the others.  Give thanks Dr. Lance Seunarine

    • Lance if only we could get across the idea for steelbands to organize themselfs to stand independant of PanTT that would be great. The government is PanTT big brother so there is a lot of things they do that might not be in the best interest of the steelbands.

  • I have nothing against that but it won't happen until steelbands organize, then they could call their own shots
