Everything is at your FINGER TIPS!!! So if you have a desire to PRODUCE a piece of GLOBAL PAN MUSIC, I will walk you through the TODAY'S STEPS!!!
You do not have to be able to PLAY THE PAN!!!
You do not need to KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC!!!
All you NEED TO KNOW is THE SOUND THAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. You know what they say: Every TRINIDADIAN is a PAN JUDGE. So you are going to be JUDGING your OWN PRODUCTION as you go along.
I will begin by giving you an EXAMPLE of what I want to hear. My idea of a GLOBAL PIECE OF PAN MUSIC is CALYPSO BASED with some R&B and JAZZ INFLUENCE. The composition has to deliver the CALYPSO NUANCE in the very first few bars. Meaning that any WEST INDIAN or TRINIDADIAN who hears the track, will suddenly say: THAT IS OUR MUSIC!!! That is CALYPSO MUSIC -- even though it will be NUANCED.
Now, since YOU are going to be producing your OWN MUSIC -- the choice and direction is YOURS. But you have to know what YOU WANT TO HEAR.
And before WE go any further, I want to instill upon your mind that PRODUCING MUSIC and MARKETING MUSIC are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMALS. But we will get back to that later; although it should be your FIRST CONSIDERATION -- MARKETING!!!
Now, I will not use a LIVE PAN!!! I will use INDIGISOUNDS!!! And even INDIGISOUNDS cannot deliver the sounds that I hear in my head. But we will FIX THAT as we go along. So let us concentrate on your first CRITICAL DECISION which is CHOOSING THE RIGHT MUSIC PRODUCER.
There are websites out there with HIGHLY TALENTED producers begging for your business. In this day and age, you do not have to be driving around -- looking for a parking spot and then going into the studio to meet the producer FACE TO FACE.
This is 2019!!!
So you go to the websites and start reaching out to PRODUCERS (American producers, eh!!! They are the best!!) and start telling them about THE MUSIC that you want to produce. Your best approach would be to select about 10 pieces of music that represent YOUR VISION and present it to them as a starting point.
Now, here is your first problem: If you choose the WRONG PRODUCER -- YOU GET THE WRONG PRODUCT. No different from HIRING AN ARCHITECT to BUILD YOUR HOUSE!!!

Now, choosing the RIGHT PRODUCER is 99 percent of the project. So I suggest that you interview at least 12 PRODUCERS before you choose one. That interview purpose is two-fold: (1) You want extract as much information about the STATE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS TODAY from each producer interviewed; (2) You want to pick somebody who has the right talent for your specific project and also someone who has the time and patience and motivation and skills and compatibility to deliver YOUR PROJECT.
Which means that you have to clearly define your genre and what statement you want to make with THE COMPOSITION. Pick out about 5 to 10 pieces of music that define your direction and present them to the potential producers -- and your discussion about the development of the piece could begin right there.
If you want to build a two-story, 12-unit apartment building -- you are not going to hire a contractor who specializes in SINGLE FAMILY (ONE STORY) HOMES. So the onus is on you to screen for the RIGHT PRODUCER for your project.
Anyone out there who is seriously (or even tepidly) thinking about producing a GLOBAL QUALITY PAN TRACK -- you are free to put this process to the test without it costing you a dime. There are websites out there with HIGH QUALITY MUSIC PRODUCERS offering their services at varied prices. So even if you do not have the money to produce the music right now, you can do the front end interview and screening -- these guys are looking for business and they never know who is serious and who is not serious. But they have to listen and evaluate and discuss each potential project that comes their way.
Even in the town in which you live, their are music studios all over and you are free to do it the old fashioned way and make an appointment to discuss a music project with a few MUSIC PRODUCERS. You will be surprised how much you can learn about the process just from being in the environment and proposing your project.
PAN PEOPLE (PAN LOVERS from every level of the community) need to start composing ORIGINAL PAN MUSIC for GLOBAL CONSUMPTION and the EXPATS who live in NORTH AMERICA have a BIG LEG UP in this arena. It is time to seek PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE in producing the music. We have all the RAW INGREDIENTS; we just need to reach out to the EXPERTS IN THE FIELD to BAKE THE CAKE!!!
DIGITAL PAN has opened the DOORS for ordinary PAN LOVERS to step into the world of GLOBAL PAN MUSIC PRODUCTION. Take a look at the FILM INDUSTRY in TRINIDAD and see how ubiquitous FILM PRODUCTION has gotten on every level.

THE PERFECT DIGITAL PAN TONE
This is where you (as the EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) have to bring some intellectual property and creativity to the project. You have to find a sound engineer who could hybridize a FLUSH AS A BLUSH TONALITY. The notes have to ring and radiate. The decay has to be engineered to perfect precision.
You are creating a FRESH PAN TONALITY never heard before. And you have a WORLD CLASS MUSIC PRODUCER who is going to create the PERFECT MUSICAL COMPOSITION to deliver this musical sound to WOW THE WORLD.
This is virgin music territory and the early bird is going to get all the FAT WORMS.
It is just a matter of time before this music hits the airwaves and leaves all the limitations of the ACOUSTIC PAN and the E-PAN and the PHI and INDIGISOUNDS and the G-PAN in the REAR VIEW MIRROR.
I would like to see a TRINIDAD PRODUCER (or should I say a PRODUCER WHO CAME FROM TRINIDAD) develop this project and take it to FRUITION.

One last thing: Make sure that you (MR. EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) run the FINAL VERSION OF THE PERFECTED TONES by me before you actually DO THE RECORDING!!!
