I remember standing on the side of the EASTERN MAIN ROAD IN TUNAPUNA watching and listening to SUNLAND STEELBAND play this tune on the ROAD CARNIVAL DAY with all the BAD JOHNS in their FULL GLORY.

DALGO, JOE DOG, RED KEN, MASTIFAY ... PAN COME A LONG WAY ... especially the PAN TONES!!!

How I eagerly await the POLISHED TONES I hear in MY HEAD!!! Ah hope ah live long enough to hear them!!!

  •  Road March in 1955? Dalton Narine was onto something when he offered this suggestion...

"Pan Trinbago’s Music festivals used to have very large crowds years ago, but nowadays they are not as well attended. People are ‘panorama geared.’ DN thinks panorama [in its present format] should be done away with, that it is ‘the blocking agent in the development of pan as an instrument and an art form in this world.’ He says the formulization, rigidity of the competitions are not mobilizing the art form. DN has an alternate suggestion, and is of the opinion: that a competition where you can “play anything you want, and however you want - oh man, now that will be a competition!” exclaims Dalton.

    • Thanks, odw!!! I love that line from Ray Holman where he describes the PAN TONE in his head as "VERY LUSH and NOT METALLIC". There is a very thin line there!!!
