  • Well said...and very true. On the other hand, the statement: "If we are serious about our cultural heritage.." there is a devil in the details: it is the first word: "If".

It would be better to ask the question. "Are we serious about our cultural herigage?" This is a yes/no question and the answer needs to be backed by examples.

So far, the answer is not pointing a lot to the "yes" side of the equation. The practioners of our cultural heritage - the people who "produce" have been neglected.

That is why calypsonians are being reduced to a few shows and a competition once a year.

That is why panmen and panwomen are reduced to a competition once a year and have to pray that they are not denied their so-called "stipend".

That is why DJs rule the road for Carnival and steelbands have all but disappeared from the fetes and the road.

That is why brass bands have all but disappeared from the fetes and the road.

That is why the language of soca has been taken over by "Jamaican".

That is why the splendour, the history and the pagentry have all but disappeared from the mas costumes and replaced wit a string of beads, two plumes and a bikini.

Don't even mention forget the actors, dancers, poets, writers...

I am not trying to be negative, but to be realistic.

    God bless our nation.
