Since I am always talking about being a REAL TRINDADIAN and a CALYPSO LOVER -- I am going to do a critique on this CALYPSO VIDEO PRESENTATION.
It will shock many of you to know -- that in my opinion, having followed politics in TRINIDAD since 1956 -- that this is NOT a COVID CALYPSO (although it is presented as such and could be enjoyed as such with the prevailing trend of thought)... but actually a POLITICAL CALYPSO ... a political AD for the current government.
If you look at the COVER PICTURE you will see two of the PRETTIEST TRINIDAD GIRLS that you could find anywhere in the world (although on a personal level, I have never ever found INDIAN GIRLS TO BE PRETTY) -- except WALKING THE STREETS OF TRINIDAD (and ah leaving put TOBAGO -- deliberately). Yet they are NEVER FEATURED in the CALYPSO because GB did not want THE DISTRACTION from his delivery of the lyrics.
Beyond that, look at the verbal message: After THE COVID STORM we would rise again -- above ALL WE PETTY DIVISIONS. The word "PETTY" can be redefined to mean RACIAL DIVISIONS as THE PICTURE SUBLIMINALLY SUGGESTS.
And when you go to the end of the video and look at the credits -- it is a TOTAL CURRENT GOVERNMENT PRODUCTION!!! $100,000 WORTH OF PRODUCTION under the cover of COVID.
Personally, I don't have any issue with the politics, especially because I watch these CALIFORNIA POLITICIANS shamelessly PIMPING THE CORONA VIRUS for NATIONAL POLITICAL ATTENTION for hours and hours every day.
But TRINIDAD is my land and of that I want to be proud and glad -- and I know that THIS CORONA CRISIS coupled with the EXCESSIVE BORROWING that took place years before the VIRUS ARRIVED is going to turn that country into a CRIME PIT and BANKRUPT LAND over the next three years. So when I see the politicians using MY CALYPSO as a tool to fool the masses -- IT IS VERY DEPRESSING.
In the middle of the song there are some nice melodic parts that could have been developed and used more. And GB had NO RIGHT singing that song because he does not have the VOCALS to deliver the message. But then again -- the whole production is not about what lies above the surface but the never ending myth about EVERY CREED AND RACE FINDING AN EQUAL PLACE. So what does the quality of his voice and the WEAKNESS OF THE PAN really have to do with anything.
On the surface, it is an enjoyable production -- but if you understand the LOCAL POLITICS ... it is a POLITICAL MESSAGE paid for by THE PNM GOVERNMENT with TAX PAYER DOLLARS!!! I am sure that they are going to win the next ELECTION because KAMLA HAS NO MESSAGE!!!

I really enjoyed this CALYPSO VIDEO -- except for THE PAN. To me, it was like A DISTRACTION!!!
We really need some YOUNG MINDS to SYNTHESIZE some PAN TONES that could go STRIDE FOR STRIDE with CONVENTIONAL INSTRUMENTS.
