Trinidad & Tobago, W.I. - Components of Mas and Calypso will be added to the National Panorama Small Steel Orchestra Finals at Skinner’s Park, San Fernando, on Thursday 28 February, from 7:00 p.m., making it a total Carnival experience.

According to Phillip Barker, Chairman South/Central Region – Pan Trinbago: “This a golden opportunity for San Fernandians to come out in their numbers and get an early taste of Carnival, seeing that there will not be a South Pre-Dimanche Gras show this year.”

He added that patrons attending the Small Steel Orchestra Finals will be entertained by calypsonains who recently competed in the one-time Ken “Professor” Philmore calypso competition last Sunday. Those include Sherwin Mitchell, Sherma Bass, Kaile Anthony Salazar and Yong Blue (Clint Davies). Also forming part of the pre-show entertainment are sections of Sando’s best Mas bands - Kallicharan Carnival, Lionel Jaggesar & Associates, House of Jacqui (Junior Band) and Traditional Mas. “And after the Panorama, patrons can party to the sweet sounds of DJ Black Gold.” All this is for a fee of TT$100.00 on entry.

Naturally the main ingredient is the Panorama competition where fourteen Small steel orchestras will play their tunes of choice before an adjudication panel of six judges comprising Joslynne Sealey, Lambert Phillip, Michelle Dowrich, Roger Sardinah, Tommy Crichlow and Vorbin Cordice.

Awards will be presented to Steve Achiaba, arranger, (posthumous) and Withfield Weekes, former Chairman of the South/Central Region, for their contribution to the steelband movement.

This year’s Panorama is in tribute to our cultural icons: Ken “Professor” PhilmoreDr. Winston Bailey (Mighty Shadow) and Winston Scarborough (D'Original DeFosto Himself)—all of whom recently passed—with the theme “Prosperity In Pan.”
