Anthony Pascal

A musical hermit, a natural talent, he was. Twin brother to Ann, big brother to Roy and Wayne, and favorite uncle to many. Born in T&T on 05-30-1947. He has been an inspiration for all of us throughout his life. Anthony was full of talent and excelled in many areas such as athletics and music. As a young man he entered the Aunty Kay talent show and won on two occasions playing the push key harmonica. His first band was The Nightingales and then The Bert Bailey and The Jets, and also times with The Flames, who had Pelham Goddard on keyboards. He also played with Musician Union with Monty Williams and later Roy Cape All Stars, and then recorded with most of T&T’s top artistes such as Black Stalin on “Caribbean Man”. Also, the Mighty Duke, Mudada, Relator and many more.
Anthony Pascal has always been a lover of our national instrument, the steelpan. He played with Our Boys and toured Jamaica with them. He also played with Valley Harps and his own band, Arirang. He has been working with Tony Williams, learning about making the pan instrument and understanding the techniques of tuning. He continued doing that for approximately the last 25 years together with pan tuner Lawrence “Egars” Myers up until now. Anthony was a dedicated soul in whatever he did. Admirable.
On the international scene, Anthony has been working with the Mighty Sparrow in Jamaica. He has also had the opportunity to sit with Quincy Jones along with Happy Williams, whilst Roberta Flack was being recorded. Additionally, Anthony has been recording with the world-famous Rolling Stones on their gold album Goat Head Soup. Here he was awarded a gold record for his contribution on the album as conga player and percussionist. He is the first Trinidadian to receive a gold record. He also knew Bob Marley whilst he was living in Jamaica, and he also contributed to world-famous Third World by allowing them to use his congas to practice when they were starting up.
He was a man with love in his heart, always willing and ready to help others. A special human being. This was also present and visible in the area where he lived and worked, where he would support the kids with e.g. school supplies. Anthony’s family describes him as thoughtful, loving, humble and dependable. He was knowledgeable about life and gave his family valuable and encouraging words - the essence of life: love.
What a journey, full of musical consciousness and respect for humanity he displayed. We will always love you. You will be always loved. True blessings from all our hearts. We love you.
