it is just a matter of time before oil prices come off the bottom surpassing the $45 budget mark and money starts running again in Trinbago. In recent weeks, speculative bets on higher oil prices through exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have soared. Bullish bets on oil bottoming out in the high twenties skyrocketed in recent months even as oil broke down to new lows.

And once the government starts seeing that surplus we doh need to sell no rum in no panyard. Nor do we need to wrack our brains to come up with cash-flow ideas for the steelbands. Just stretch your hand out to the MINISTER OF CULTURE.

However, I will still suggest that during this low-cash-tide that PanTrinbago build a database of about 200,000 EXPATS and market products to that group. The EXPATS are NOSTALGIC and if you court them courteously they will buy PAN and CALYPSO products. A greatest hits 12-song PANORAMA CD has been my suggestion for years now on this forum. Hell, if I am given the rights I can produce the first 1000 copies of that CD all on my own. Ah giving Bugs and Glenroy the rights to pick the first six songs and after that, I picking the next six. if Bertel Gittens vex because I eh put enough BOOGSIE on the CD -- let him run by Marlene and Dolly and make dey own.

And I am sure that me and odw could work long-distance and build that EXPAT database for them too.

  • Not everyone s so optimistic about oil prices going back up in the near future, Claude.

I fear that "rum talk" will be with us for a while !

  • Claude, apply for the rights and do the thing. Twelve songs and the database. If you kick start, forumites will give full support!!

  • While T&T is not as badly off as Nigeria or Venezuela, this global slump in all commodity prices (oil, copper, iron, etc) caught every one by surprise.

T&T dodged a real bullet by electing Rowley and company. If Kamla was still in power, crapaud smoke we pipe because of the rampant corruption and mismanagement. But that fat has been chewed over, so we do not need to go there again. (Oops! I just did.)

  • Claude you will be getting a call from the Minister of Culture. She can't afford to pass on-folks with real solutions.

    bugs

  • To paraphrase Santayana: If yuh forget de past, yuh go do de same chupidness!!!  Let's hope that Rowley and company educate T&Ters so that we do not have to go this route again.

    • Educate T&Ters? Fat chance of Rowley & Co. doing that. Fat chance of the people accepting education. Fat chance of me being educated enuff to accept the prices in the groceries. Projections look good, says Claude. Fatter chance! We on the road again........same route.
